Fuel pump

Fuel pump
I have an 02 S-10 Blazer. 4.3, fairly low miles, nice rig in general. It wouldn't start, and after opening the air intake and not smelling fuel, I poured in a little gas and it ran for a few seconds. I then replaced the gas filter, and while it was off, I turned the key to see if the fuel pump worked. No fuel came out, so the fuel pump was not running. Is that a valid test? I switched the relay under the hood, with the one for the fog lights cause we don't have them. Still nothing. I looked all over for a fuel pump fuse, but couldn't find one. There were no blown fuses . Is there a seperate fuse for the fuel pump? The replacement pump is incredibly expensive and a pain to get to. Has anyone bought an under the hood mounted pump and re-routed the fuel lines to get to it?
Can the factory pump be rebuilt? What fails in it?
Thanks for any replies.

RE: Fuel pump
There is a fuseand it takes care of the fuel pump relay, fuel pump and a couple of other things this fuse should be in the fuel center. If there are no blown fuses and you have swapped relays I would say that it is a pretty valid test. I would think that buying a "under the hood" fuel pump and running all of the lines would be more of a pain than changing out the fuel pump. I also did not know that they made a under the hood mounted fuel pump.

RE: Fuel pump
The pain is the 260.00 price tag for the fuel pump, not the work itself.

RE: Fuel pump
Is that an aftermarket part or a genuine Chevy part?

RE: Fuel pump
Schuck's cheapest. It's a Carter. It didn't cure the problem. I am thinking the oil pressure switch may have gone bad. It is a cheap part that will switch off the fuel pump if it fails. It is buried in the back of the motor next to the firewall. If not that, I probably got a bad pump from the store. The wife is starting to get anxious about her rig.
