Default Fuel Pump?

I have a 2001 Blazer Extreme. I am wondering if my fuel pump is a problem. It never wants to start on the first try, I crank it for a couple seconds, let off & go again. On the 2nd or 3rd crank it fires right up. The gas gauge also drops from time to time and will stay below empty for a bit then pop back up,this especially happens if its below a quarter tank. It also hesitates when I get on it. I have put new plugs, coil, wires, fuel filter, spider, distributor cap and nothing has fixed the problem. I dont mind putting new stuff on cause I get to play in the garage for a while with no hassles but would like this problem fixed. I have a K&N airtake and flowmaster exhaust if that helps. Has anyone else had this problem. I am thinking it has to be the pump.

Sounds like it but how is the pressure? Does it bleed off? Hook should chime in here soon with the how to.

Rear of the fuel lines by the firewall there is a shrader valve. Go to autozone and ask for a test kit. Turn the key on no start wait till pump stops priming then turn key off. Watch note pressure. Note pressure after 5 mins.

i think you're right about the fuel pump. When i try to start mine in the morning it has trouble unless i cycle the ignition once. Mine needs a new pump.
