Default fuel pump and battery 98 blazer s10

i have a 98 blazer 4wd 4 door. it quit on me and the shop told me it was a fuel pump. i replaced the pump and it ran fine for a day. i put gas in it and it died (of course). after an hour of sitting it started and ran. i drove it home it then died in the garage. i pulled the fuel pump again and cleaned out the screen on it and replaced the the fuel filter again. it started and ran then was parked for two days, won't start. i cranked it until the battery died. i tried to jump start it, nothing. put a battery charger on it and it started right up, let it idle for about 20 minutes. then next day wouldn't start. the pump does make a clanking noise when the key is on and the gas gauge is stuck on full. my next step is to try a new battery. i have not tested the fuel pressure, but i don't understand why it sometimes runs fine and sometimes doesn't. i am at a loss and i am sick and tired of dropping the foolish gas tank. help!

What brand of pump did you install?

What is the system voltage while you are turning the engine over with the starter?

Have you tested the fuel pressure while you are turning the engine over?

I like that "foolish gas tank!". That's how I felt when I started the pump replace on my 2000 silverado, 130K miles and at least half of them off-road, it's a work truck. Finished at 9:00pm in the cold and mud. What foolish mess!

Where did you get the pump? I wouldn't waste my time or money on anything except an Air-Tex or Delco pump. I have seen cheapies from the mass marketers fail right out of the box. Have you changed the fuel pump relay? Also, if there is debris in the gas tank then it needs to be cleaned out.

the pump is a oe from another blazer, i wiped the tank all out, it is totally clean. i didn't check the voltage or the pressure yet , i have to get a pressure tester. i wiil change the relay, i didn't think of that.
