My fuel pump went out 2-3 weeks ago stranding me in the desert while out shooting. Luckily I had cell phone coverage and close enough to the main road they found me.

First thing I did was search the forums. Delphi was choice. Thing I didn't know was there were two tanks... and yes I got the wrong pump. Luckily, and I mean very very luckily they took pity on me and took it back.

I also learned I have an 18 gallon tank and not a 14 gallon. All this time it said it was near empty at 13.5 or so gallons of use.

I was pissed when removing this thing and broke the vent cap on the opposite side... there was like $20 gone.

Well, got on the old Amazing.com today & picked up an AC Delco pump, new fuel tank, vent, tank straps and line clips for less than I'd have paid for just the pump at my local auto parts store. Pretty happy about that. Itll take a few days to get everything but I'll have this one empty & out by then. I coasted it in to a gas pump right after it died and as usual, filled it up. Since my gauge is wonky under 1/4 tank I thought I ran out of gas in just the right spot. No such luck, go figure..... LOL. Anyone have an 18 gal gas can I can borrow? 😂

Mine hasn't died yet but I'm dealing with random no start, reduced performance and random stalls. All not good with the recent snow storms, so I ordered another $30 pump today.

Dont mean to side conversation this. But do you think it might be a week alternator? Or limiting the power somewhere? I had a problem like this with my civic and it ended up being my alternator. Finally died one day.

New alternator a couple months ago. I checked the fuel pressure and it's definitely a weak pump. I started a full tune up last week but had to cut it short to go rescue the wife's charger again.

I have a 20 or so gallon gas can.

I'm guessing you aren't relatively close, though...

Murfeys law a fuel pump never dies with a empty tank - and even if it does its filled to the top just for a test .....

use the old fuel pump to pump-out the tank; although the old fuel pump has low pressure it will still pump-out the tank. Use a 5 gal fuel can and fill-up another vehicle with three cans, keep one full can to put back into the Blazer.
Power the fuel pump by using a fused wire to the fuel pump terminal in the fuse block. Take the fuel filter out and add a length of fuel line to reach between the metal fuel line and your fuel can.

NO SMOKING!!!!......

If the pump still runs, I pump the gas out of the schrader into the can. Like lanny said, no smoking.
