Fuel pump blues
#23
It wasnt too bad at all Hess13x. The undercarriage on this thing is pretty clean with very little surface rust. One of the reasons I bought it. A couple shots of PB on the tank strap nuts was about all it took. I did end up cutting the plastic tubes on the old pump thought. Got tired of fighting the hose clips.

Well that was quite the pain in the ****. After 2 wrong fuel pumps, finally got it back together. FYI, AC Delco will not fit and Car Craft / Advance Auto Parts house brand (mfg by Delphi) mounts the float on the wrong side of the pump. It hits the tank wall and will not float. My advice? Bite the bullet on the price of Delphi from the get go. Delphi # FG0071 for 4 dr 4x4 with 18gal steel tank. Also order new tank straps if replacing the tank. Contours are just different enough to make a difference. At least it's running again, now I just dont know how fast. Now speedo is pegged at 100.... LOL. We have a love/hate relationship right now. Any ideas on the speedo? Worked fine before the fuel pump went out. Cable on ttanny knocked loose maybe?

Sorry to hear that you had so much trouble. I replaced my pump last weekend. I cheated and cut a hole in the floor. Total replacement time including cutting the hole was 25 minutes! I went with another cheap $30 Amazon pump. As far as the speedo issue have you tried unhooking the battery? I had the same problem a while back with mine unhooked the battery a couple times and it was back to normal.

I'll try that. Battery was unplugged during the pump swap but hey, I've seem some pretty weird stuff happen too. Speed sensor looks fine by the way. Got back under it to check it out. Unplugged it and reconnected but no change. I'll try the battery trick right now.
