Default fuel pump question

i have a 2001 2dr blazer 4.3 v6. it wouldn't start for me. when i clicked the key to the on position there was no sound of the fuel pump kicking on. later that night at about midnight decided to give it a try and there was the sound of the fuel pump and it started. the next day, i went out and it wouldn't start again. both days were hot out with the sun shining on the truck so i was thinking that maybe the relay was bad, because i've heard alot about the heat affecting bad relays. i went and bought a new one and now i'm not getting anything no fuel pump sound and no starting. i know there are some wierd things with the different systems in different vehicles so i wanted to make sure there wasn't anything special with changing the relay that i had to do other than just popping out the old one and putting in the new one. it also only has a quarter tank of gas in it, but i'm sure that probably doesn't make a difference. just wondering if there was just anything different or special before i give myself more work to do.

Well those are the symptoms of fuel pump failing. Been there!

On your 2001 Blazer: In the underhood fuse panel, just forward of the fuel pump relay, there is an empty, single female terminal in a recessed opening. If you apply battery voltage to that terminal, it energizes the fuel pump and it must run. Try it and post your results.
