I couldn't remember where the split happened in gearing and didn't have the time to look up the thread where Gary went through it a year or so ago. Knew someone else would know for sure.

oh yeah, i would swap the whole assemblies out. i dont have the tools or experiance for differential setup. (backlash, pattern, ect) the only issue i may have is with the front, the parts truck has "flanged" axles, the good truck has the c.v. shafts that just simply "plug-in" to the differential. should still interchange, both are gen2's i'll just put some new axleshaft seals, oil and brakes on my "3.73" axle this spring/summer and have it ready for if i need it. probly wouldnt take 2 hours to swap whole axle assemblies in the rear. the front however---iknow i'll want a whole afternoon. thats how long it took to pull the one out of the parts truck. it would be cool if the G80 is still functional. i have my doubts with the age/milage on it.

I may not have followed if it was said before but can you just swap out the whole rear axle. Currently i have a open diff on my blazer (don't remember which gear ratio) if i were to locate a G80 in a blazer rear in a junkyard (probably unlikely but i can try) is it possible to just swap them out? Would there be an issue with the different ratios in the front and rear? Just an idea i had, wanted to be sure that two blazer rears are interchangeable before i even considered it.
Thanks

That's what i thought but i wanted to be 100% sure. So i would have to find matching front and rear diffs presumably from a Zr2......That alone will take me years wandering among the junkyards, plenty of time to learn. Thanks
