So i need some help. I have an '04 2-door 4x4, 145k mi.
It has happened several times now. But, when I fill up the first click from the pump it will completely full, like gas to the brim. Then the gas will start leaking out the top of the filler neck at the gas cap openning and flowing to the ground. Also, if I go from fuel light being on empty, to over flowing is only 16.1 gals last time. Isn't the tank bigger? Any info on what might be causing this would be great. Thanks!

16 gallons is stock I believe. My '02 takes 16 gallons/60.5 liters to fill.
As a side note & kind of funny, my 1990 bayliner bass boat has a 20 gallon tank. Imagine my surprise filling that up for the 1st time. Damn thing has a bigger tank then the truck hauling it! lol
You may have a loose clamp at the top of the filler neck, get under the truck & look up to see where it's leaking from. Also you may need a new cap. Check out the origin of the leak 1st IMO.

It leaks straight out of the top right at where the cap goes. Like, be full to almost the tip top, then itll start running out. I'll try to look for a clamp at the top. Maybe the filler neck gets full and adds weight and starts drooping??

The hose running to the neck/cap is a rubber/nylon sort of hose. Very stiff & not going to droop.
Don't fill it up that much! The 1/16 of a gallon extra you get by filling up the filler tube is ridiculous IMO. "They say" don't go past 2 or 3 clicks on the gas pump when filling. If you're trying to get it to the bottom of the filler cap, I'd invest in a couple 5 gallon jerry cans instead of having it leak out & waste fuel.
