Have you made absolutely sure that you have an 8.5 rear axle under the back end of your truck? The 7.625" 10-bolt rear axle is far more common.

Regardless, in my opinion I wouldn't recommend a used (or unknown condition) G80 ever. Sure it's cheap, but you have no guarantees if it is going to work any better than what you have in your truck now...

You could research it a bit and determine, through comparison, what rear axle you have. A google search for "GM Rear Axle Identification" should get you started on that front.

You don't have a locker now from the sounds of it, but do you need one? What are you looking to do with the truck?

The G80 is a decent factory diff, but not one I would recommend going through the trouble of setting up & installing especially if you have no idea if it will work as intended.

If you do have an open diff in there now and you want the added benefit of a locker, you can get a drop-in locker like the Lock-Right products that will replace the spider gears inside your current differential with a ratcheting locker unit. They can be finicky.

It comes down to what you want out of your truck and how much money you have to put into it to get there.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Powertrax-Loc...item4843d5f0c5

also i see alot of different diffs on eBay saying 8.5" to 8.6" 30 spline and bla bla.. what do i look for ?

RPO Code says i have GU6 - 3.42 Axel Ratio Rear / G80 Rear Limited Slip...

If you have a G80 diff in there now, you CAN NOT use a drop in locker like you linked to. That can only go into an open carrier.

And there is absolutely no use in looking for a differential until YOU figure out what axle you have under your truck.

That does not verify the axle that is under your truck. Read through my posts again and do what I suggest. Verify with your own eyes.
