Default Gunky throttle body

My cherished 97 blazer 2 door is my baby. She has been a great truck.Recently I had the air intake off doing routine maitenance and I noticed the inside of the throttle was really gummy and black. Is there a "easy" way to clean the TB or should I take it off and clean it that way. Thanks in advance.

Default RE: Gunky throttle body

The easiest and safest way to clean the TB is with it off. This is primarily because of the IAC passage at the back of the throttle body which cannot be thoroughly cleaned with the TB on. Once you get the TB off, you'll want to remove your IAC valve and TPS sensor. On the IAC (idle air control) valve you'll want to clean the pintle (cone on the end of the valve) to make sure that it doesn't have any buildup on it. Then clean the bore and sealing surface where the IAC came out of. You will also want to make sure that the throttle blade is nice and clean and moves freely with no binding.

The throttle cable is a little bit of a pain to remove. I have done it several times and I remove it by pulling the little plastic 'C' clip. Be careful with the 'c' clip cause it's VERY easy to lose. I almost lost it the first time.
