Hard to start in mornings..is this normal?
Sorry if i flood your forum with questions..haha.
So just took in a 96 blazer. If you hadnt seen my other post..just had the transmission rebuilt, new battery, new fuel pump, just had it aligned yesterday, and oil/air filter changed.
Now here in Oregon its pretty darn cold. In the mornings it takes my truck about 5-10 minute to start. Itll sit there turning over (not slow..its got a good kick) but doesnt seem to catch on. After a while, it starts, but itll chug there for about 5 minutes. I cant drive while its doing this. Then itll kick in, stop chugging and be fine.
Now the service light is on. Itll stay on until about half the day (usually when ive been driving it a while) then shut off.
My BF thinks its normal because its an older car and its cold. Just wanted to see what ur thoughts were on it?

No.. that is definitely not normal. i would go get your codes checked first of all. you can go to just about any vehicle parts store and use their scanner. as far as the hard starting that sounds like your fuel pump. taking 5 minutes is not right. so you can also go to the parts store and get a fuel pressure tester. when you turn the key to run (engine off) the pressure should be at about 60 PSI. then it should not drop below 50 PSI for 10 minutes after the key is off
so do that and let us know what you find out. But from what it sounds like it is your fuel pump.

What brand fuel pump did you use with the replacement. These blazers are tempremental and it's not recommended to use any brand other than Delphi or AcDelco

didnt see that you had the fuel pump replaced.. but i second what mike said. If you replaced it with anything other that AC Delco or Delphi then it will cause the problems you are having.

I honestly have no idea what fuel pump they replaced it with. Its possible he just put the cheapest thing possible and not one of the brands you listed. Ill have to check out what brand and the codes. Thanks a bunch. Its good to know im not crazy thinking this wasnt normal!!

yeah if you had a shop do it then i hope you have a warranty of some sort with it. you can probably just take it back to the shop and tell them to check the pressure because you think the pump they put in is crap, and they should check it for free. its really easy to check.

Unfortunately this was my previous hubbys truck and he passed away. He had a friends mechanic do it (no shop) and that was in AZ. I had the truck shipped to OR so theres no way i can get back in touch with him. Moving to WA soon tho and my bf said his dad knows someone who can look at it for me. Hoping it makes it there. lol...it IS okay to drive 8 hours right? Since starting is the only issue?

If it still runs yes you can drive it. It's just a gamble if the fuel pressure drops too far and shuts it down (if the injectors don't see a certain pressure in the lines they won't work).
Looks like you want one of these 2 part numbers if you find the pump to be the cause.
DELPHI Part # FG0030 $218.79
or
ACDELCO Part # MU1735 $236.79
These prices are from rockauto.com and may vary ALOT depending on vendor.

The '96 Jimmy we bought for my daughter last month starts as soon as you turn the key, even in the single digits temps she had in Colorado a week or so ago - so yours is definitely not normal. If you keep running it like is you will likely experience starter and battery problems from the excessive cranking.
