Default Heating Problems on a 2003!

Just in time for the cold weather (here in Michigan) I am having some heating problems on my Blazer. Lucky me, it isn't just heating problems, butall of the problems seem to be related and they started happening at about the same time. Here are the symptoms:
[ul][*]Heat will blow just fine but after a little while it goes colder, the adjuster **** is not the problem, it works just fine. It doesn't blow super cold, maybe a little warmer than room temp...maybe.[*]The engine temp gauge is at the normal level and then goes all the way up for about 15-30 seconds and the "Check Gauges" light makes an apperance. It then goes all the way back down to normal temp in about 5 seconds, soI highly doubtthe engine isn't actually getting that hot.[/ul]
Those are the two problems, as for what is ok...
[ul][*]All of the climate control dials are ok, nothing wrong there[*]The engine warms up at the normal speed[/ul]
I haven't checked my coolant or antifreezelevel, and I don't know the status of the thermostat. I was looking through some old posts trying to find a previous post about the subject and found this here...https://blazerforum.com/m_14360/tm.htm

I don't really know if that does (or should) help.

I'd like to get this crap sorted out this weekend, that way I'll have enough time to thaw my fingers outfor school on monday.

well, first off, check your coolant level, and heck, might as well replace the t-stat. while you are at it, run your engine for a while with heat on high, when truck is nice and warmed up, check both heater core hoses at firewall and make sure both are equally hot. if not, search on here for flushing your heater core. worth a shot.

Thanks man, I was going to do the t-stat and coolant this weekend but I wanted to check and make sure I wasn't over looking something here.

You should have it covered following that thread you linked...since that thread I have had to flush the core again, but this time I replaced the dexcool with normal green anti-freeze. The only reason Dexcool is in the vehicles from GM is to minimize maintainance...
