Hi everyone, ok I'm going to be buying a 95 4x4blazer with a blown motor. I was told by the guy that owns it, I'd have to find a 4.3 vortec that was a 95 or 96. I'm completly new to chevy's, I've always been a ford guy but this offer came along and it to good to pass up. Please educate thisnoobie lol. Thanks

Personally if finances and time (not just the labor end but also if you can live with the truck being down while you do the work) allow it id rebuild the one that's in it, you know it fits and you'd know it will have a long life and treat you well as long as you keep up with the maintenance on it. Nothing like a fresh start for peace of mind

 

How much doesa rebuild cost compared to a used motor?Oh and there was some pretty big holes in the oil pan.

 

A typicallong block costs $1200 plustax from a rebuilder. That includesa $300core deposit.That will get you started. Whatever else you buy to go along with the engine will bedetermined by the size of your bank account.

You can usually find a used motor with no less than 160,000 miles on it for about $600 then you can rebuild that one for $1200 if it is rebuildable.

 

It sounds like a rod or two has come from together. A rebuild may be out of the question.

A lower mile used replacement will be fine.

 

So I can pick up any year 4.3 vortec fromthe junkyardand it will work? Also I was told the oil pans are different in the 4x2 than the 4x4 it this true?

There is a guy that sells used motors on ebay under the name s10 warehouse. He buys wrecked vehicles and pulls all the good parts. He has good motors with low miles, he is also pretty knowledgeable. I believe that he will ship anywhere too.

 

The oil pan and oil pump pick up tube and screen is completely different between the 2x4 and the 4x4 due to the clearance reqired for the front axle. A new1991-1998 4x4 oil pancosts $140.44 MSRP.
