Default Help!! Gas leaking from truck

I recently bought a used 2002 Chevy Blazer, and this is the first time I've actually gone to fill her up. The gas pump stopped and I clicked it one extra time, I went to hang the pump up and gas poured out from underneath the truck, maybe about a gallon or more. It stopped and the car started fine, I had someone follow me home and they didn't see any leakage and I didn't feel anything different with the truck. This hasn't happened before and I've gotten gas plenty of times. Am I still safe to drive it until I can get it checked out? And what could this be?

Sounds like the filler hose has a split in it. On the '02 the filler hose has two sections of metal piping with rubber in between. If you take the spare tire out you can see the filler hose and probably find the leak. I would suggest checking the connection at the fuel tank first.

I was able to order a replacement section of rubber hose online. However the replacement hose does not have the OEM bend in it and kinked, causing a fuel back-up when filling tank. I had to add a wide band clamp to take most of the kink out.
I cannot find the company that I bought the hose from; it took me several attempts before I came across it.

Good luck.

Filled tube, just as lanny said. The metal part likes to rot out as well. Be careful not to over tighten the fasteners at the fuel door when putting the new one on. They are easy to strip. Don’t ask me how I know.

On my 2000 GMC Jimmy the mounting tabs for the fuel pump mounting rusted away and broke the seal, if I filled it until the pump clicked of,f I would be pouring gas from the top of the tank. It did not leak during fill up or if I did not fill it all the way full. My 2000 GMC Jimmy has a plastic tank and the shop I took it to had a hard time finding a new plastic tank, but they were able to source a used plastic tank with solid mounting tabs.

My leak was not continuous or during fill up. Only if I filled it to the top of the tank. So I drove it for months before I got it checked out, I just watched my fuel gage and did not fill it up all the way. If it leaks during fill up I would be concerned. The exhaust is not that far away from the fill pipe. The last thing you want is a fire. Depending on the nature of your leak you might want to get it fixed as soon as possible.

My leak isn't continuous either and it hasn't happened before just the one time I actually tried to fill the gas tank. And the gas gauge doesn't work could that mean something too?

Check the ground wire for the fuel gauge. The ground wire should be on the frame near the rear bumper. I forget if the gauge is pegged full or Empty if the ground is open. It is one or the other. How the fuel gauge plays into your leak I do not know.

Default Update!

It was my fuel tank sending unit. The seal is worn causing the gas to slosh around and spill out when it's too full. Which is also why my fuel gauge doesn't work. Hopefully getting it fixed Wednesday, thanks for the help guys.
