Default Hood release

Hello

I am in Canada and anybody from up here or the northeast US knows that it has been a long hard winter up here. There have not been a lot of storms but damn it its been very cold for prolonged lengths of time.

Anyway, My hood release does not work. I pull the lever on the inside and nada..zilch..buttkiss..nothing not even a click

I am hoping it is just frozen and once temps moderate a bit it will start to work again, but just in case. Is there another way to get the hood open?

Any secrets?

Thanks in advance
Don

I live in a much milder climate, but try this method. It is quick, easy, and no cost, so you have nothing to lose if it doesn't work. Pull the hood release. Open the door and go outside and slam the door closed. Wait 30 sec's and it pops open. If that doesn't work, try putting it into a warm garage, letting it 'heat up' a bit and try the above method again. If it does pop open, be sure to lube the locking mechanism with a good silicone lube to ensure it will be easier next time around.
You can also effectively 'shorten' the underhood pull cable attached to the release mechanicsm by adding shims behind the crimped-on cable end. I have used small washers with a notch cut out one side.

Thanks again

WD 40 is good......for about 7 days. You need a heavier lube to last a while.
