Default hood release latch broke off cable

have a 1999 blazer tried to open hood the other day and the hood release broke off the cable i have a 3 in. of cable hanging out of the wire. I bought a release cable at auto zone but i cant get it through the firewall cause of a nipple half way up the cable how do you get it through the firewall? I would like to get it fixed cause i dont like to having to use pliers to open hood everytime

Default RE: hood release latch broke off cable

I replaced mine amonth or two ago... if you're looking to replace the entire cable (casing + wire) i'd just tie a length of thin guide wire to the old broken casingat the hood latch side, thenpull the old casingthrough to the driver's seat, leaving part of the guide wirein the engine compartment. Then you can attach the new cable casing to the guide wire, and pull it back through the hole in the firewall and out to the hood latch.I had to pull the grille and headlight out enough to run the wire, and at the firewall there's a grommet moldedon the casing that you can push through to the interior of the blazer (only goes in, can't push/pull it out to the engine side) if you use something like a jack handle or long screwdriver.
