Hey, if a truck was damaged due to over heating what would be the tall tell sign? Thanks for the help

 

well,could be all sorts of things...but you cant really tell unless you have some of these symptoms
cracked head
coffee colored oil
coffee colored coolant
white exhaust after its warmed up(so you know its not just condensation)
blown head gasket


anything else guys? all these can be a reason.


Now...sometimes you can get lucky,it overheat and nothing bad happens at all. just depends on how long you run it while its hot.

 

Yeah, I think I have a blown head gasket, how do I now for sure?

 

Water coming out of the tail pipe or water in the oil and maybe a miss. Had a old 61 T-Bird once, blew both head gaskets, water shot out of both tail pipes and it had a miss in it.
I have a 2000 blazer 4x4 LT 4.3 and it over heated big time (Clucth (sp) fan went out on me about 50 miles from home in Phx, AZ. It was like 115 degrees (Outside) and when the needle peg out, I pull over as soon as I could and lifted the hood and pop the lever on the rad cap to let the pressure off and it smoke all to heck (Water mist) even burn't part of my hood insulation, thats how hot it was. Anyhow I did that and let it set for about 1/2 hr. Started it back up, cut the A/C off, roll down all the windows and drove home in that 115 degree heat, it wasn't a nice ride but it may it with the temp staying right around 220. Change the fan (Life time war on it) and it runs fine. By all rights I should have cook those head gaskets but I got lucky this time.
