How low does the fuel gauge go?

I have a 98 4dr 4x4 LT Blazer, and I went to fill it up the other day. Now I know my model has the 18 gallon fuel tank, and the gauge was on E, well how far past E does it go before its actually empty, because when I filled it up it ended up only being 12.5 gallons, leaving me 5.5 in the tank yet.

all the blazers and jimmys i've had all seem to have this little quirk, count your blessings youu have less chance of running out of gas and being stuck.
A word of advice though, when your gauge gets to 1/4 fill it up. The more gas in your tank less chance of condensation build up

The main reason for not letting your tank get below ~1/4 tank is the fact that you are directly contributing to the death of the fuel pump. When the pump is not surrounded by fuel while it's running, it will heat up thereby shortening its life span.

I think 15 gallons is the most I've ever been able to squeeze in.
On my old 1990 Blazer, with the digital dash, three lines left(meaning you supposedly still had gas!) was EMPTY. And I mean empty! Took me a couple of training missions, walking to a gas station, until I was fully trained! lol

I agree with what the rest have said...for those Canadians on the forum, i've never put more than 60 liters in from 'empty' and it's a 70 liter tank. I usually fill up as soon as I see the light go on, but have gone up to 50 kms over that... but it's never gone below the empty line, and never more than 60 liters.

My '99 does the same thing, hebelracing38. With the needle buried in E, I still have about five gallons to go. We could go by the tripometer, however I feel that using it as a normally indicating gauge means that I'll pay less each time I fill up (albeit more often) and will be less likely to ever run out of gas. I hear that fixing it usually requires the R+R of the fuel sensing unit in the tank... not worth the cost, in my opinion.

Luckily, I solved this problem for us. I was unsure how accurate my gage was so I ran it to E... and ran it to E... and it finally ran out of gas on my way to class.. But I was prepared, and kept exactly 1 gallon of gas in the trunk. I filled it up with a gallon, and drove directly to the gas station and filled it, I got about 15.5 gallons in, before it said it was full.
