Default Humming? Wheel Bearing?

Hey guys,

I have had a lot of humming and noise coming from my left rear tire it seems like. It starts humming at about 30 or 35 mph and doesn't stop when I get up to speed. I was thinking my wheel bearing needs to be replaced. Is humming the classic symptom? And I also heard shaking the tire can be another way to check. How hard is it to change a wheel bearing if this is my first time doing this particular repair?

Bad wheel bearing can hum and vibrate the whole floor. Feeling shaky??

Lift the tire and shake from up to down and if it moves its a bad bearing.

Left and right shake its a bad tie rod. My left right shake shakes a little bit but I think its normal.

Dougn85, the rear tires don't have tie rods.

Tibby, you can also try rotating the tires, see if the noise moves. If so, you've got a tire issue.

Vibration starting at 30mph or 35mph could easily, and more likely, be a universal joint. U joints typically vibrate at 35mph and then again at 70mph. Raise the rear wheels off the ground, trans in neutral, engine off: Rotate the driveshaft until the cross of the u joint is horizontal, push and pull up and down on the shaft close to the yoke and check for movement. Rotate the shaft 90 degrees and try it again. Should not be any vertical or horizontal movement of the yokes and/or joints.
