Default I think my fuel pump is dying.

This morning I left for work and was driving up a hill when my truck started sputtering. I thought it was maybe too cold (only been running for about 1 minute), it seemed like it was flooding itself. After sputtering for about 5 seconds (I thought it was gonna die) it ran like normal all the way to work (a 45 min higway drive). When I slowed to park at work it sputtered a bit, that's when I thought my fuel pump was dying. After work I tried to drive it. It started right up, I put it in drive it sputtered, made it about 5 feet and died. So I started it back up, backed up 5 feet back into my parking spot and it died. It starts every time but no power for driving. I've got a GM mechanic friend who tells me 98%fuel pump 2% bad dist cap. So I'll check it's cap tomorrow and check the fuel pressure, and then I'll determine if I want to take time off work and fix it or just get a shop that we deal with at work to fix it. I am a mechanic, but I don't really want to do it if I don't have to. Cost of doing it myself vs cost of getting it done. Hmmm.

Yes indeed, hmmmm.
Weather you decide to do the repair yourself or pay someone else, let us know what the problem was.
My guess is fuel related (plugged filter or worn pump)

My guess is neither fuel filter or pump. You say it starts right up so I'm guessing that you have a fuel delivery problem to the cylinders and NOT to the fuel rail (thus the sputtering). Could be a bad fuel pressure regulator or a leaking injector(s).

Default RE: I think my fuel pump is dying.

If it wasn't so damn cold out, I would've figured this out on my own. I took it to a Pennzoil Quik Oil Change Center to get my oil changedand keep my warranty intact, and they checked everything. I thought it was a really good service. It was all good untill about two days later. That's when my problems started. I was too busy to deal with it, so I sent it to a shop that fixes all our shop's trucks, cause I thought it was the fuel pump since I've heard they go on these trucks all the time. They told me that someone didn't connect the mass air flow hose to the air cleaner properly. Damn oil change people! So I got charged 89.99 shop charge, plus a tow bill for something thatPennzoil's guy'smessed up. I am going to send them the bill. FU#&@%N!!!!!!
