Default Ignition Components Change Intervals??

Just wondering how often you guys are changing plugs? Do you go by time or miles...and then when?

What about plug wires, distributor cap & rotor.....how often?

Just looked-up and found that I have about 75k miles on the plugs, wires, cap & rotor.....that I did in Feb 2013. Cannot believe it has been 7 yrs.

Thanks,
LannyL81

I do change "on condition". I give it a thorough look and re-gap the plugs and have a look at the distributor cap and all the ignition cables for scuffing or other damage. Apart from that about all 60'000 km (make it 45'000 miles) I change the plugs.

Distributor had to be changed because of a bad ignition module (wanted to get a new in) at some 200'000 km (120'000 miles).

Plugs and wires every 100,000. Cap and rotor upon inspection.

Thanks for the replies.....I decided to go-ahead and get plugs, rotor and cap....need to take a look at the wires....see how they are doing....go from there.

I got a new OBD II scanner so I can see what is going-on with the fuel trim levels.....might be doing the "spider" soon...along with the other parts.

Lanny, I think you have been on the list for a while so you have heard that the key ignition components like the spark plugs, cap, and rotor should be the AC Delco brand. I think the O2 sensors are on that AC Delco list as well. The S/P wires seem to be in a grey area. Some are recommending AC Delco and some are going with other high quality aftermarket brands like Accel. Be sure you can get the 'custom fit' option when looking at the S/P wire sources.

YES!....only Delco cap, rotor, plugs. I do have Autolite wires at this time as 7yrs ago they were recommended to me by someone here. Have not taken that really good look at the wires yet....busy doing home stuff while the weather is nice.

But soon....

Beyond shot, by the looks of it you’re lucky it still worked.

I’ve made a routine of changing my cap and rotor every year during my spring oil change.

Gee....me thinks I may have found the reason for the somewhat rough idle......

Going to be replacing these more often after seeing this.

Will not be able to run engine for several days yet as still in the process of putting everything back together from my "Fixing Oil Leaks" thread.
