New member to forum. Quite happy I was directed here by a member.
I have a 96 Blazer LS 4DR 4WD. My vehicle was broken into and the ignition lock broken. I think something is lodged into the cylinder causing it to work without a key. The column lock is fine, it locks when it is turned off.
I have the trim parts off and trying to find out how to release the old cylinder so I can replace it.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

 

Sorry to hear that your Blazer has suffered such an indignity. May the perpetrator burn in hell, when their time comes.

It's been a while, but I think if you look at the top of the ignition cylinder there should be a little hole there. You need to stick a probe in their ( I have some old dental picks that work nicely) and wiggle the cylinder until you get it in just the right position and the cylinder will slide out. Pushing on the probe will release a spring loaded pin allowing the cylinder to release. Good Luck.

 

Thanks for your reply. Found the hole, but just can't seem to find the right position. I can't feel anything that feels spring loaded.

 

You have to be able to turn the ignition cylinder to the 'START' position, then depress the ignition lock cylinder retaining pin, rotate the ignition cylinder to the 'RUN' position and pull it out of the housing.

If your vehicle is equiped with the passlock system, you will then need to perform a passlock relearn.

 

I can turn the ignition to all the positions. I can't seem to find the retaining pin. Is it straight down, or at an angle. Could they possibly have altered the lock when they jambed something in?
