Default Ignition problem

I've got a 2004 Blazer, and this is the problem: Sometimes when I turn the key, it won't start. I'll get the dash lights and everything, but the last part of the turn won't start the engine. There's no sounds of it trying to start either.

Most times it lasts about 5 minutes before I get it to start, sometimes longer. Once I was stuck for 40 minutes. It happens mostly after I've been driving, shut off the truck, then try and start it back up soon after, like If I run into a store for a few minutes.

Any ideas on where to start on fixing this?

I have some ideas but mine is a 99 and there may be differences.
When you say 'no sounds' do you mean not even a 'click'? Also those inst panel lights go out when you turn key to start, right?

Have you tried starting in Neutral when that happens? Or wiggle shifter?

I don't hear a click anywhere, but I do hear the fuel pump going on. I think the instrument panel does go out when I've got the key turnt all the way to where it should start up.

I've tried starting it in neutral before and nothing happened. \

I will say when it does decide to start, it starts up strong with no further problems.

Then, if there's no additional protocol like needing the brake depressed, find the underhood fuse panel, there's a relay that's used to drive the starter solenoid. If you find it.. and if there's another just like it, swap them.

Or while it's not starting give it a sharp tap

Could a relay go from not working to working? Or is it like a fuse that once it breaks, it's done? I'll give that a try next time though. And I've read elsewhere about giving the starter a tap, I'll try that to.

Might also be signs of a failing ignition switch. Check out the links below:
