Ignition System
Hello everyone!
I know that this is the Blazer forum and I love it, but I have a question about a 2001 Honda Civic (my friend's). I just dont' have any other place to go to on the internet except BlazerForum, because I own a 97 Blazer and this is basicaly my home.
So what happens is: When she (my friend) is driving the car on the interstate or city (doesn't matter) sometimes it would just start loosing the power and gradually goes from 50mph to 40, to 30, to 20, to 10, and eventually doesn't want to go at all. But it doesn't stall. Once she stops, I just floored the gas pedal and the RPMs go up slowly to around 3K and just jerk around there (3K).
Here is the interesting part: Once the car cools down for around 30-40 min. You start it back up, and it runs like a champ.
So I took it to Advance Auto Parts and the computer said "Ignition System". I have a lot of thoughts going through my head about what could cause the problem (some sensor or spark-plug)... I know that if a spark-plug goes bad or the spark-plug wire goes bad, it would not be an intermittent problem like in this case so, I don't know...
Anybody please tell me what can cause the engine to misfire.
Thanks in advance!!!

RE: Ignition System
I'm no expert, the problemcould bein the ignition. sounds like it could be a lack of fuel or air in the engine, could be a bad sensor somewhere. I'd take it to a technician and let himrun an onboard diagnostic test on it. The computer will tell exactly whats wrong with it. Good luck on it.

Thanks for your quick reply. I know that it is a sensor but which one? Maybe there is a way to narrow it down at least a bit?

RE: Ignition System
Cool here is more info-
There are generally 4 major sensors on the engine:
Mass Airflow sensor- on intake
Fuel/Air mixture sensor- in throttle body on some cars
Temperature sensor- activates electric radiator fan on FWD's
Oxygen sensor- located on or near catalytic converter or on exhaust manifold
It is most likely either the MAF sensor or the O2 sensor. I think it may be the O2 sensor because it fails when it gets hot. Take off the O2 sensor and check it for abnormal **** buildupor damage.
Like I said I am not a professional on this, but I know enough about those symtoms to tell what it maybe. I do think my first guess was right. the computer will restrict the engine to let you know it ain't running right.
