Default I'm either lucky or getting really good with a dist

So, I was on the way to work the other day and just as I was getting on the interstate, the RPM drop to zero. Tried to crank it, nothing. Used my scanner, came up with P0340 (can sensor circuit malfunction). Popped the hood and checked the dist, and it wobbled pretty easily.

Had it towed home, went and got a brand new dist from Autozone and put it in the same way I did with the old one. Set it in, button it up, try to start. If no start, turn the rotor 180°. Still no start, pull the dist and tap the key to spin the cam without spinning the oil pump. Install dist, try again.

I did this with my new dist, and hit it solid. Starts right away with a touch of the key. No miss, no hesitation, idles smooth and quiet. Cleared the codes and checked it a couple of times, no P0340 or P1345.

Am I really that lucky?

As for the old dist, i got that one from a junkyard, I think the ticket said it came from a 2001 Blazer. Same model, I know, but I guess it had a bit of wear already. The new one should be okay for awhile at least, since it's new. This weekend, I'll be ordering a Delco cap and rotor just to be sure.

Did you even set the Number 1 to top dead center?

Nope.

If it was off, wouldn't it be giving me a P1345? I've driven it since then and still no codes.

And of course, I made sure it was sitting all the way down inside, connecting to the oil pump.

With the history between the two of you, I believe your bravada loves you that much.

Update: still no codes. Drove it to work on the interstate (70-75mph avg) with no issues, checked with the scanner and it still has nothing, not even any pending codes.

One question, though. The new dist came with a cam sensor, duralast brand. Is the cam sensor that came with the new dist okay, or should I get a Delco sensor?
