Default Instrument lighting problem.

I searched and found similar problems, most of the threads i've seen have other topics that get more focus than the lighting problem.

I just bought a 2000 blazer yesterday, the gauge lights do not come on but everything works fine. I work the night shift and need to get this figured out quick. seems to be a common problem.

I replaced the dimmer switch and everything worked fine for a few minutes. The brand switch is already burnt up. $40 in a blink of an eye!

I don't know what to do @ this point!

I can't seem to figure out what caused the switch burn up so rapidly. If there was a bad ground, the switch would work intermitantly right?
The only I can possibly think of is a faulty ECM.

I work nights so this is a huge issue!
Anyone have any ideas?

I just put in a fused jumper on the 2 outside green wires to bypass the dimmer all together.

Yes, if it was a bad ground the switch would work intermittently. I'm thinking there is to much of a current and that is why it keeps blowing out.
