Default Interior Lights

In my 2001 blazer the interior lights (dome light, ones by your feet, and back of the cab) turn on by themselves for some reason and will not go off. I had the pull the fuse in order to get them to turn off. The first time I turned off the truck and they turned off finally. Also the dome override button doesn't work at all, which might have something to do with this issue. Any ideas, thanks.

When do they turn on by themselves? (driving/parked/only on startup/etc.) How are you operating the dome override? Is the dial pushed all the way up?

Not trying to be stupid just trying to eliminate possibilities. Other members have had issues with interior lights coming/staying on because of broken door pins. If it thinks a door is still open the lights will stay on. Also the dome override needs to be pushed 3-4 times to turn the lights off. Another member recently had the same problem and it was simple as he had his dome light dial pushed all the way up.

Do you have an alarm and do you set it each time you park? Just some food for thought here also, I have accidentally left my map/dome lights on overnight before and woke up to a dead battery. BUT, I have also done the same before and set the alarm and it was fine. I could be wrong but I think if you don't set the alarm they will stay on, but if you do they will turn off automatically after a little while. If anyone has tried this out before let us know your results.

The dial is not up all the way, I know if it was they would be on. They came on automatically going down the road for no apparent reason, my first thought was the hatch was open, but the gate open light on the dash never came on, so wouldn't think that was it. I have no clue, I have the dome override pushed in and that means they should not come on when you you open the door or at any time really at, unless you turn the dial all the way up, at least that was the way it was on my s10 i had and the other blazer I have right now, ones a 2001 and other a 2002.

I don't know what is going on, but I think something has happend, because I would think I know how to operate the lights, but thanks for the good thoughts, and wish it was so simple.

If the dome override is pushed, it is possible that there is either a short in the wiring somewhere or a short in the switch itself. IIRC, the switch is fairly easy to disassemble. Have a look inside for any signs of burn contacts or other damage.

Sounds like theres something wrong w/ wiring if the switch isnt working, but mine would come on with the switch off and Im pretty sure its because the door hinge is worn and the door is slightly out of alignment, so the switch on the dash isnt getting pushed in how its supposed to.

Like I said, just trying to eliminate possibilities. I have had my headlight switch panel completely disassembled before. Hopefully you won't have to dig into it because it was hard for me to get everything back in correctly. It does come out, just have to take your bezel off. Here's a thread that shows how if you don't already know.
