Issues changing the fuel filter?
Okay so I am attempting tune up my self since I just bought a 1996 GMC Jimmy. It was site hesitant and jerky when accelerating some times along with it rough idling. So a friend said changing the fuel filter and plugs will get rid of that. BUT when I go under the drivers side door where the fuel filter is, its rusted to all living hell. And have no idea how to get it off since I don't want to break anything. Any advice on this and how I should get it off? I already sprayed some WD40 on the bolt ends.
WD40 will make a mess, that's it. Try PB Blaster. It also makes a mess, but it penetrates rust too. The filter is 20mm and the flare nuts are 16mm. You stand a far better chance when using a line wrench instead of an open end wrench. If the lines twist off, most auto parts stores have repair ends, or you can go with fuel injection rated rubber line.
It seems as you live up north too.Make sure you take off gas cap first. Then start engine, take out fuel pump relay.Engine should die out within 2 to 3 seconds.Use flare wrench on filter side of fittings. If anything breaks, you`ll just have to repair the fuel lines with a fuel line repair kit.You should be good!Good Luck!
