Just replaced the Spider Injector, Fuel pump, and fuel filter on 2000 Blazer 4x4
#11
Thanx!
Just got an '02 LT 4dr 4x4 with 113k miles. Guy I bought it from said it would only start in 2nd. Replaced the shift solenoids and that fixed it right up. But getting a P0449 and P0410 code...
So what exactly is this "Spider" thing? Could that have something to do with my gas mileage? Planning to do change out sparkplugs and figured might as well change out wires too.

"Fuel metering block" is the technical term for it. The 1996 through 2002 OEM S&T body have 6 mini fuel injectors inside. Each injector directs fuel through the "spider" lines to a poppet valve located at each intake port. 2003 through 2005, (and the upgrade) relocates the injectors to the intake ports, and eliminates the poppet valves.
If the OEM spider assembly poppet valves are clean, and the assembly has no other problems, you might notice a slight difference in performance & fuel mileage using the upgraded version. Usually the OEM is replaced due to a problem, that's when you notice a substantial difference when upgrading.

I got my injector upgrade and plenum gasket kit for $312.99 USD total from rockauto shipped to Canada. Was going to put it into my 2001 that I'm now parting out but now I'll put it in my '99 when and if I need to.
DELPHI FJ10565 Fuel Injector (8409.91.0069)
FEL-PRO MS95816 Plenum Gasket (4016.93.1910)

MOst of the questions were answered by folks that know what they are talking about. I did take a bunch of pictures, but the removal is a little time consuming but not terribly hard.
The best part is that the truck does NOT have any issues starting anymore.
Still haven't used a full tank of gas yet. Haven't noticed that much of a difference so far, but these crappy fuel pumps (just replaced mine) have the stupidest electronic mechanism that really is an awful design. GM should have recalled it because it is such a lousy design.
It never reads perfectly like most cars do. It sticks, it floats, it is just garbage. I used a delphi, but they all are junk, so I still have my son press the mileage and hopefully he has gas beyond 225 per tank.
We'll see

Just came across this thread. Aerovette99 have you noticed any better mileage now? I have all the same problems you mentioned at the beginning - hard starts, fuel gauge doesn't work, and poor gas mileage around 220/tank. I'm hoping to improve it and wondering if your fixes made any difference. Thanks

220 miles per tank is pretty typical for a 4WD Blazer in mixed driving. 14MPG. They're definitely not gas mileage specials. Price you pay for driving an older true 4WD SUV. But then again, 40K will buy a lot of gas.
Try to drive above 50mph where the TCC will lock up. That's good for a couple more MPG. You might even get 18 or 19 MPG if you are at steady speed.
Now, hard starting and inop fuel gauge is another thing......
