SURGING, sorry. Okay! Just in the last day or two.. went from driving smoothly, to now it surges at idle and SOMETIMES stalls. Seems to stall more when it is hot. Temperature gauge never indicated an overheat. Not sure what is going on. Trans fluid level is fine, might even be a quart overfull, I need to revisit the procedure to properly check that when it is hot. Runs fine when driving and sometimes doesn't surge (when cold it does not seem to do so.)

96 LS
151,000 miles
Symptom just developed.

Seeing if it will smooth itself out and my brake booster appears to be leaking badly but.. Any ideas?

Any codes?

Is your brake booster causing a vacuum leak?

Any changes or repairs recently?

And, it seems it has progressed, Now it sounds like there is rod knock. And yes, the brake booster is leaking badly. Vacuum leak is for sure but it never used to stall at idle.

How hard is it to remove the oil pan? What am I looking at here?

No codes, changes or repairs except for oil change 5W-30 and filter.

New engine time? Or can the oil pan come off and new rod cap bearings be put on...

So are you trying to get it running or are you wanting to investigate potential major engine damage?

If the former, then I would fix the vacuum leak. If the latter, I've never had the oil pan off of this engine/truck so maybe someone else can chime in. What does the magnet on the oil drain plug look like?

RE: to your question of 'How hard is it to remove the oil pan' is dependent on whether your 96 LS is 4WD or RWD ? IF you put info like that in your signature, you won't have to remember to include it each time. It is much harder to remove the oil pan on a 4WD Blazer due to all the 4WD mechanisms that are in the way. I can tell you from first hand experience that it is difficult to remove the transmission pan to do an ATF fluid and filter screen change on a 4WD S-10 Blazer. You have to loosen the rear trans mount and jack up the rear of the trans about 2 inches. This gives you just enough clearance to remove the trans pan.
