Hi,
I have never cleaned my MAF of 132,000km (82 020Miles). Has anyone ever cleaned it and had a miss go away. I have no check engine light.
I have rough idle that is felt in seat of the pants. Revving it up I can still feel the miss. It's not brutal but you can tell. Usually these engines are super smooth. Even after a full tuneup with good parts it's still there.
I wanted to know, can I do the following?:
Disconnect the MAF while engine running and see if it gets even rougher idle? Y/N? [ or is that just a crappy test really ]
I have an extra MAF that looks brand new.
Q: Is there any harm in replacing the MAF and seeing if that helps or do i risk the computer having to re-learn everything and take a chance on weird rpm issues?
Thank you

Just take the maf & get a can of maf cleaner & spray it off. I noticed a difference on mine. Then lightly ran a cue tip across the sensor to get it a little cleaner. No, you don't need a relearn done, that is only with replacing crank sensor. When mine was surging i replaced plugs, wires, coil, & fuel pump & filter. Still there, dropped in a whole new distributor & problem dissapeared. Good Luck

If you can avoid touching the heating elements on the MAF if at all possible because they are super sensitive and can possibly break with ease. Best bet is to get a can of CRC MAF cleaner. Take apart the MAF and spray both sides of the element until they are clean.
The can of CRC produces enough force to blast off the carbon. Also you might want to wear nitrile gloves because the MAF cleaner will absorb in your skin before you can wash it off.

The backup MAF I have is super clean, in fact it looks brand new, the only part that has carbon is the round mesh part "on outlet", all the actual sensors lines are super clean. It might make more sense to clean the backup one and install it! Almost looks new.
I bought it used in a package deal.
