Depending on your axle type & ratio, 2WD, 2 speed selectable 4WD or Auto 4WD, 18mpg overall isn't all that bad. There are some "tweaks" that may or may not help, but it requires a high end scan tool to access the streaming data to make the adjustments. Using the proper tune up parts, (AC Delco) will provide the best performance and mileage.
My 98 2 speed selectable 4WD with 3.42:1 open rear axle consistently gets 24mpg on the freeway, (65mph with cruise). My 04 with Auto 4WD and 3.42:1 limited slip only gets 21 to 22mpg. Around town driving varies on both of them from 13 to 17, just depends how "spirited" it gets driven
