Default MULTI FUNCTIONAL SWITCH ON 99 BLAZER

hello,
i have a odd problem. my flasher/hazard flasher unit comes on intermitently when i dont have my turn singals on. i have been told by a local gm dealership that its the multi functional switch shortin out. so is this a diy fix or a service dept fix and is this a common problem on the 2cnd gen blazer. i also have another problem, when i have the heated control **** for the floor- it comes out the defrosters and not the floor any ideas on this one.

The Multi Function Switch problem seems to be a pretty reoccurant problem in the 2nd gen blazers, there are multiple threads out there about it. it's a possible DIY job if you have the know how. I've got a similar problem with my 98 blazer

I swapped my switch. It's really not that hard once you locate the torx screw on the underside of the steering column top cover to remove it and then the torx bit that faces the steering wheel on the switch itself. For that one because of the tight fit you'll need to 'make' a wrench out of a torx bit and a pair of big vice grips that have deep teeth. Once you get that screw out it's a piece of cake.

It's an expensive part new...i got my from a wrecker for 100$.

If it is just the hazard switch, you do not even need to remove the covers to replace the hazard switch. CLICK HERE.

Smoked, did you remove the steering wheel too?
For some reason that bottom torx screw backs right into the steering wheel steel and i cannot remove it.
What's the trick?

That's this one i was referring to: "For that one because of the tight fit you'll need to 'make' a wrench out of a torx bit and a pair of big vice grips that have deep teeth."

I have a set of vice grips and chose a really big pair with big teeth... i clamped it as hard as i could around my torx bit facing perpendicular and it made a 'torx wrench'. Fortunately my screw there wasn't so tight that i could unscrew it slowly without taking off the steering wheel.

Ok i see my problem is'nt with my spectacular new wrench now..it is that blasted torx screw itself!I'm guessing there's about 4-5 full turns still to go but i'm already tight into the steering wheel steel.I wonder if i can somehow just cut it and replace it withone withshorter throw.

Hmmn, i remember having to adjust the torx bit in the vice grips as the screw got out further but i dont' recall running out of room...? Maybe your torx bit is longer than mine.

Just enough

Is the screw still tight enough you can't get needle nose pliers on it or something like that?
