Default multiple issues, stammering + check engine light

Hello, I am new around here. I have a 1996 blazer LS, and have had a host of problems with it over the years, but the most recent issues are the intermittent check engine light that stays on for a week, then goes off for a week. The most alarming issue right now is whenthe enginestarts to flutter and stammer at half-throttle. at WOT, it doesn't stammer or flutter, but it surges and pulses sometimes at part throttle, especially at night or during wet weather conditions. I don't think the check engine light is related because right now its off and its still fluttering and losing power. The plugs, wires, cap and rotor are only about a year old, but who knows..hopefully somebody here! I just don't know a thing about water-cooled engines. I feel pretty lost. any help would be appreciated. thanks for reading...sorry its so long!

an interesting side note: I was under the hood the other day looking for an obvious electrical problem, ei: chewed wire, faulty connections, etc. I found that the hot side of the battery was a bit loose, due to a stripped post bolt. I tightened it up (needs replaced as a permanent solution), and the stammering and stuttering have not shown up since (fingers crossed). does this sound like something that could have caused this problem???

Yes it does, since the altenator supplies voltage to all the ignition circuits and the battery supplies starting voltage and a path to ground. If all the connections are not good then the electrical system can not supply the computer, ignition systems and other items with the proper amount of voltage. If the battery is stripped out then either replace the battery or find a larger type self tapping bolt to hold the cable in...
