Default My One Way Parking Brake

The parking brake on my '98 4dr 4wd holds rock solid with the front of the truck pointed downhill, but doesn't hold worth a rat's rear with the back pointed downhill, even on a fairly minor grade. Anyone experience this and know how to correct it? I've read the threads here about adjusting the brake and have done it to the best of my ability.

for whatever reason ive always been told that parking brakes are designed to work for forward momentum for whatever reason. but it should still work somewhat in reverse. also check to make sure both are actually engaging, if only one is working that might be why also
