I was replacing my rear brakes yesterday afternoon. turns out the shoes were fine, but one of the drums must have been warped or something cause it was getting dug in causing my problems. Anyway, before yesterday, I had never had that rear tire off. The moron before me cross threaded the lug nut, so I snapped off my stud[:@] So I could try and pound it out with a hammer and take the chance at bending things, or i can drain my differential and undo the bolts and stuff to my axle to pull the whole thing out and have someone machine press out the old one and put the new one in. Anyone had any experience with this? thanks in advance

It probably wasnt the 'moron before you'. It was probably your lack of maintenance. The lugs rust to the studs if they never get moved.

I snapped 2 studs on my front wheel after getting it submerged in some muck...I even pulled off the wheel and cleaned it all out, just not enough.

But..its not really that hard to get the stud out. Granted I have the discs up front, but once the rotor is off and you see the end of the axle (or whatever the name for that flange the studs go through). The stud can just be hammered out. Then to pull the new one back in, just flip the lug nut over (so the flat side is against the axle), and tighten the hell out of it. It pulls the stud right in.

I did both both of my studs, and coated all the remaining studs in PB blaster to avoid future breakage, in about 15 min (also including tracking down that pesky 18mm wrench).
