Dexacool works fine as long as there is no mixing and no air in the system and it’s changed at the 100,000 interval. The problem is that in the real world, systems leak and most of the public doesn’t know anything about OAT, glycol, etc and the never ending marketing confusion about coolant color. I just did the recommended coolant replacement interval on a Malibu with 100,000+ miles and stuck with Dexacool and everything was pristine and in order. I worked years ago on a Dexacool system that had mixing and it was a mess. Brown sludge and debri everywhere. on that vehicle I just did a simple water flush, went to generic coolant and put another 100,000 on that truck with no issues. It’s at 200,000 plus now.

I'm getting pretty old and don't understand any of that stuff so I drain and switch to the good old green stuff and add SCAs per instructions. I never had any trouble with the stuff.

Nothing wrong with that strategy, especially if you want one jug in your garage and no problems.

I had a new radiator and flush and coolant put in a while ago, maybe 6-12 months. I looked yesterday and it looks bad again, black and rusty looking. Where is the crud coming from?

I don't know but it sounds like you should flush your system with some kind of flushing agent. I just did a farm tractor that was really bad. I had to pull the hoses off the radiator and pulled crud out. I used Prestone flush and rinsed it out a bunch of times afterwards and all looks good so I'd recommend it. I refilled with the green stuff and added recommended SCA.

Hi. Did you use GM`s DexCool which i think is nothing to put in the coolant system of any car and i think it might be acid based. If i am not wrong i think i read something about that quite some time ago

The Dex Coll anti freeze realy clogged the system on my Blazer ZR2..

I dislike the DexCool so much that if i just bought a brand new 2022 Corvette the first thing i would do would have been to drain, clean the cooling system of the car and replace the DexCool anti freeze. If GM still use that stuff that is....
