ok, when i took mine apart i thought it was leaking from the injectors. There was a lot of gas on the right bank. When the gasket is bad, the vacuum is off and the regulator can not function normal. My 01 was smoking like a diesel. It would only rev to 3k. Amazing what a vacuum problem will cause. So far it is still running decent. I bought it with 207k miles on it with a blown engine. I put an engine from an 05 pickup in the little thing.It cleaned up ok and turned it into a grocery getter.
