Default New to blazers need some help

Hello i just got my first blazer for a deal. i just got a 1999 4dr 4wd auto, red, great shape and inside is perfect, has 130,000 got it for 2000.00. but i have a few questions on it

First the gas gauge jumps all over hell on it. I ran out of gas on the Northway 2days after i got it.

Second is the rear wiper motor dose not work. then u hit the button all i hear is a clicking noise. i check the nut and it it tight on the arm.

Third is the CEL came on then it went off. then is came on stayed on for about 3 days till i checked it and cleard it today the code was P0453 i belive ill have to double check but iam 99% sure that was the one i wrote it down somewheres.

Fourth is when the heat is on it blows like cold and warm not hot. i checked the coolant it was a tad low but after i topped it off still no HEAT HEAT.

Thats is all that is wrong so hope i got a good deal and not ripped off ill post some pics soon. i love this blazer. she is a bear in the snow i took her out last night. After the snow and did some offroading in the field. iam looking foward to hearing back and getting some info on how to improve the performance and style i want to do HID's, Trailer hitch to tow my BASS boat, and try to find a nice set of rims no 20's but stock sive and put some mudd tires on them just a nice simple rim if ya have any ideas let me kno. and exhaust and an intake would be nice too.

The gas guage is a common problem. Mine reads fine as long as the tank is at least half full. After that, it bounces all over the place. The fuel level sender is in the tank and is part of the pump. The pump is somewhat pricey if I remember correctly, so it wasn't worth replacing for me. I reset my odometer every time I fill up just in case.

The lack of heat is a common problem as well. Usually its due to sludge/gunk in the cooling system clogging the heater core. My blazer's heat was pretty warm, but not hot, and I could see a little gunk in the coolant so I flushed my system and replaced the thermostat. The thermostat did appear to be weak as well. It puts out all the heat you could ask for now. So, flush system and check/change the thermostat.

The other issues I'm not too sure about. But all the info above and more is on this website, just need to do a little searching. Good luck.

PS. You also might want to search for RPO codes and check them against the codes in your glovebox to find out what options are on your blazer. Pretty neat if you ask me. I found out quite a bit about my blazer that I didn't know when I bought it, like that I have the 3.73 gear with the G60 locker.

Swartlkk has compiled a list of codes here.
The gas gauge..Kind of curious about this myself. The company I have uses 1/2 ton chevrolet pickups for the fleet trucks. Seems on all our late 90's models the gas gauges would start to go bad and then shortly thereafter the pump itself would crap out. Anybody finding this to be true also?

It is quite common for the sending unit to go bad and the pump to follow. Sending units are available separate due to the issues that were experienced by many. If you do end up replacing the pump assembly as a whole at any point, make sure to get the AC Delco replacement pump. Aftermarket units just do not last.

As far as your CEL, check out the DTC listing in the Tech Article (DIY) area for the specific code. If it is not there, post up about it. P0453 should be in there.

If you are having heating issues, I would flush the heater core out. Chances are that the low coolant level has resulted in some buildup inside the heater core that has restricted the flow of coolant. It would be a good idea to flush the entire system while you are there and fill with fresh coolant, install a new thermostat and a new Stant radiator cap. I am partial to Zerex coolant and have been using it in our farm vehicles for a lot longer than I realized prior to finding out that Zerex is who manufactures John Deere extended life coolant.
