Default New EGR valve gasket with screen

I just received my new EGR gasket with a screen in it to keep crud from plugging up the EGR valve. Which way does the screen go, over the top hole or over the bottom hole.

Should only be one way it can go on. One hole is smaller than the other.

Well my question was based on the fact that I don't know where the crud comes from that plugs up the EGR valve. Does it come out of the area where the spider is located into the EGR or does it come from the exhaust area where the valve is located on the EGR device

The "supply" of air comes from the exhaust side. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve does just what it is named for.

The gasket should have one hole which is larger than the other. The larger hole is the supply side from the exhaust and should be the one with the screen on it.
