Thanks for the replies guys. It looks like we will be pulling the distributor and renting the tool. Someone also suggested that finding a way to pump the oil into the engine from the filter housing would work too. Im sure we could find a way to do that but i dont know what good it would do.
I just worry about how hard it will be to get the distributor lined up with the pump shaft and the rotor pointing at the 6 on the dist. housing when i cant see anything.

I have seen something that screwed on the oil filter and used an electric pump to prime the system in a race pit but they guys doing it were outof town crybaby richboys that nobody liked so I didn't ask anything. What I seen didn't look like a homemade job but when daddys pocketbook is deeper than your sense you can have anything custom machined.

If all you're worried about is getting the distributor back in the right place, try this simple method: Manually turn the crankshaft clockwise, with a socket and ratchet on the dampener, until the rotor points to the "6" on the distributor housing. You're using this as a reference point for reinstalling the distributor. Then remove the distributor. Prime the oil pump using a drill, (also clockwise) as suggested above. After the prime, reinstall the distributor so the rotor points to the "6" when the distributor is fully seated against the intake manifold. You might need to align the oil pump slot with a screwdriver, but as long as you don't operate the starter when the distributor is out, you don't have to worry about losing time. The crankshaft and camshaft will not turn when you prime the oil pump. This method has been known to save headaches, grief, sanity, and time when ever removing the distributor.

Yeah thats what im going to do, it should already be sitting at 6 with the timing marks lined up unless he moved it somehow. It just took us a while even with the engine out to get everything to line up and the gears to mesh properly, Most likely from being really tired tho.. lol
