New Spark Plugs

when you change plugs wires are the minimum.

When you change plugs, dont cheap out, just cough up and get the AC Delco Platinum. You will never have to change them again....

when you pop open your cap, you will ind corrosion between it and the rotor. this is due to a lot of things, no small part due to time.... the connections CAN be cleaned.... BUT at $12 just get a new rotor so you dont have to change it again when it craps out...

the cap... well the cap developes cracks and stress fractures over time. screwing with it and then trying to salvage it can work. but why come back and fix it later when it craps out on you? change it now and never do it again...

The OE plugs (the Delco Plat) will easily go 100,000 miles before needing to be changed. The set in my '01 Jimmy made it 127,000 and my '01 Astro had over 115,000 before really needing them (miss-fires, hard starts, ect).

A copper plug like the CR43TS may or may not work as well with the ignition system you have (though Delco coppers are fine plugs, the system works best with platinum, IMO). What I do know for sure is that you will be changing plugs 3 times as often if you try to run coppers (copper plugs are typically only good for 30-ish thousand miles).

The platinum plugs cost a bit more than twice as much but last nearly three times as long (and perform better over thier life, again, IMO).

I am not sure about that 2wd but on my 4X4 changing the plugs is a rather trying task (had the steering shaft disconnected at one point) so I would not want to have to do it anymore than I have to.

If you are not having any issues you can most likely relax for the next 30,000 miles. That should be plenty of time to set some cash aside so that the parts bill is not such a big hit all at once as I also suggest changing the O2 sensors (the two before the cat) when you do the plugs and cap.

I have used many types of plugs and AC Delco Platinums are the only thing I will buy, other brands I have used have had bad resistors in them and caused a lot of radio interference, very annoying.

I also use MSD wires and MSD coil, but my Autozone Duralast Gold cap and rotor has to have the massive carbon cleaned out of it once a year due to sputtering, next time I will buy Delco cap and rotor to make my Primary ignition system perfect!

I will never use any thing but AC DELCO Platinum plugs, but maybe AC Delco Irridium

Come to think of it I bought some Denso Irridium plugs when they were $12 each, 6 or 7 years ago and they worked alright, but no better then the ACD Plats in my opinion.

CR43TS are the recommended plug all the way up to 99 or 2000 BTW and last a hell of alot longer than 30,000 miles. More like 75 to 80k. Now my 01 zr2 has the original plugs and they still look fine with 150,000 miles and they are plats.

They may for you and that is great. As general rule though, a copper plug will start to fall off fast after 30,000 miles. You may not notice it for a while after they start to degrade unless you are keeping a very close eye on your performance but it is there none the less.

I hear you on the platinums. The only reason I changed mine was that I was getting codes while towing. They looked pretty good, but were not getting the job done at high RPM under a heavy load.

do i have to change my distributor cap if i run to advance auto and get a rotor?

you should.
if you're going to change one you might as well change the other....

So long as it still seals up and is not cracked, and you clean up the contact a bit, you can get away with reusing your cap.....

after opening it, screwing with it, and stuffing a new rotor under it, it might go out faster on you though...
