Default No more EVAP system and a dead fuel pump

ok here the thing i bought a 1996 blazer LS 4 door 4wd its terrible on fuel and the only dash light that comes on is the ABS due to a faulty speed sensor but the thing is about 3 weeks ago i had a bad fuel leak that we coulnt figure out where it was coming from so we pulled the tank and found a cracked line coming from the front vent line on the tank so my brother had the bright idea to just cut the line and cap it off but i later find out that the line went from the tank to the evap system ...from what i hear the evap system has a good impact on the fuel econemy but it hasnt changed ...i have no fuel smell from the truck now or prior to the work done and i have no check engine lights or codes ....is that normal ...or maybe the evap system was never working i dunno what to do here ...after he cut and caped the line the truck didnt drive right it was hesitating and trying to stall so we ended up swaping the return fuel line with the vent line in the fuel pump and that has fixed the stalling problem but then theres no fuel pressure in the lines as soon the engine is turned off could that be problematic.....cuz i dunno why but my fuel pump died today and i now have to replace ......any advice on what to do here or what was done wrong would be appreaciated

hi i have a 98 blazer and had the same problem try replacing the vent valve on the top front of the tank that should take away the smell but for the economy these blazers always have done bad on fuel for me.
Just for a example for you i went through 4 fuel pumps just this past year so you might be getting weak pumps from the factory that is very possible
