White smoke = moisture in cylinders
Could also be oil. Does it smell like burnt oil?
Is your coolant level low?
If you are saying that the power has come back, then maybe you had some water in your gas?
More details may be needed to address your problem.

It happens istantly.
I have checked Filters before.
My assumption was a mechanical fault which is not setting codes on the
EGR Valve. For me it was closed for a long time and the engine was missing
air. Now it the valve I have had some blowby oil sitting and when it suddenly
opend all of it went into the intake.
Can that be the reason for my missing power sympton?

More info needed.
What year Blazer?
Are you low on coolant or oil?
What have you done?
How many miles on the Blazer?
Has it been tuned recently?
Is the power back?
When you lose power, how long and when does it come back?
How many MPG are you getting?
The more details you give the better chance you will get some ideas.

I have a similar problem, my '79 5.7 350ci is smoking alot, gas-smell. I need new exhaust, Cat and o2sensor, so I have not been to rushed to resolve this issue. My question; how can I find the problem, where to start? And depending on the problem, whatare some options to fix this?

Coddrick, how many miles on the engine?

Well like many of the older K5's the speedo has been out for a while, I just bought the rig, and after I put new cable gear in TC, its at 90k. But as I can assume by the condition of the rest of the truck, that is most likely far from accurate. My closest aprox. is 180k, but thats just a wild guess. I had thought the smoke was just due to lack of emissions components(no cat, o2), but it smells real rich so I'm thinking its not completely related, and as there is no discoloration in oil, I just dont know where to go next. I'm going to wait until I get new exhaust on before I start to worry, but if it does persist, I'm lost.

codrick sounds like the carb needs tuned or rebuilt of it smells rich.
rich=too much fuel
monette you need to tell us some more details.

Thanks chris015, that would actually make sense, my carb is a little worn, I've noticed. I have done a bit of work cleaning it, and putting some new linkage cables in, but given its condition I dont have a hard time believing it may be causeing issues.
