No Reverse and 4th gear!! 4l60E Tranny

Default No Reverse and 4th gear!! 4l60E Tranny

I was going down the highway and suddenly the rpm vent upp for about 500-600 rpm and stayed there, eased the trottle and gave som gas again and then it was a terrible grinding metallicnoise, put the gear in 3:rd maually and the noice stopped, drove home (1 mile) and parked the car for the night.
Next day I tried to drive the car and realized I had no Reverse an 4th gear, maybe no 2:nd eighter.

So probably I have to replace or rebuildthe tranny!
And here in Sweden the tranny is so expensive!!

I have had som other problem with this tranny before, a TCC slip codeP1870.

Someone with the same problem?

The truck have under 80000 miles on the Odometer,

OK!! so my reaction sun shell is busted, is ther a knowed cause for the reaction sun shell to break?
I'am a little dissapointed that this kind of things happends already after 80000 miles!

Is it OK! to drive the truck on 3:rd gear to the trannyshop?

That's up to you...

And if you purchased this truck used, all bets are off as to how the previous owner(s) treated it. But the sun shell is one of the weakest parts in this particular transmission. Some have good luck with them, others don't. 80k isn't bad. A friend of mine had his fail at 43k and he babies his truck. The replacement parts are stronger.

I had the same thing happen to me at about 90,000 miles...I just bought a rebuilt trannie and put it in...

Hi, Now I am happy again!! -new 4L60E automativ transmission in the truck!!

Bought a used tranny and have spent 7 hours to take the old one out of the truck and 5 hoursto put the new one in, filled oil in the tranny and tok it for a testrun.

And how we talking, I had probably have some trouble with the tranny for a long time, maybe alredy when I bought it!! [sm=boosign.gif]

The old tranny had very black "strong burnt smell" oil and alot of metal shaving in the pan, the magnet looked like a fury ball!! So something is very wrong in this tranny.

I have lover rpm on the engine in 70mph then with the old one!!

My mechanic told me once you see metal in the fluid to leave it alone. If you change the fluid and take out all of those bits the gears will fail sooner rather than later. It may be complete BS but I noticed the shavings 50k miles ago and stopped changing the transmission fluid. Still runs great.......if I can figure out my damn #2 cylinder misfire issues. lol

At 70mph, my RPMs are usually just over 2000. Usually 2100-2300 while at speed.

Now with the new tranny my rpm is at 2000 in 70 mph!!

you know....I kind of agree...I changed my fluid a while ago....and it had been a while....and my truck ran funny for a few months (probably had to build up more metal shavings) maybe I was just imaging it....but I swear it was because of the fluid/seal change......and yeah 2000 -2100 sounds about right...
