ok well bad news ppl my tranny broke lost reverse and 4th gear in the truck yesterday after wheeling hard so my next question is im getting a used tranny and wanna add some small upgrades to it whats the best possible parts i should use? and whats the diffrence between the 4l60e and the 4l65e?

ok i seen the thread for this and it was closed and couldnt post a question i read the reviews that the 4l65e is a upgraded transmission for the v8s. would it work on a 2000 gmc jimmy 4x4? as my transmission went in mine and wanna upgrade for offroad use and towing in the summer. i also will be upgrading to the corvette servo for this and a trany cooler. i wanna know what corvette servro they use from what year of corvette and the part number. thx

I don't know about the 4L65E but I can tell you that I installed the orange box TransGo shift kit in my 1998 4L60E and I really like the results. The shifts are firm but not jarring and everything on the transmission works very well.

I can tell you the "SUNSHELL" is what
went out in it. Same thing happened to
a 97 4.3 I had.
Unfoutunatly, it is an internal thing, and the
trans will have to be tore down to get at it.

Yep,glitch, if you dont wanna tear completely into it. Not much you can do to help the life of it. Now to improve shifting you can install a shift kit. but thats about it.

If it is the sunshell for about 50bucks you can get a monster sunshell which is a definent upgrade. About a 7 on difficulty to change. If your mechanical don't be afraid. I just did mine with trans exp at all

4l65e has 5 pinion planetary gears vs. the 4 pinion in the 4l60e. I believe the output shaft is hardened as well. Other than that, the newer Sunshell is supposed to be better as well. I'm not sure when that change took place though.

IMO going to a new/beast sunshell would be all you need. I don't think a 4.3 can make enough power to do much damage to a basic upgrade 4l60e.

Rebuild your transmission, you know what's wrong with it! If you get a used one you have no idea of history or problems that the used one has! Just my opinion. My transmission went bad. Same thing sunshell... buy a hardened one it will never happen again.
