Just bought a 97 with vortec engine. Starts runs great but wont shift into 3rd gear. No slipping or chatter. No over reving. Plenty of power it just wont shift into 3rd. ?????

 

Does your speed in crease or does it feel like the more u push the peddle nothing happens stays at same speed?

 

It runs great, goes from drive to second normally but then no third shift. No slipping jerking or chatter just no shift.

 

Is it an automatic?

If so, your 3-4 clutch pack is probably gone.

 

It could also be the shift solenoid.
