Default no third or fourth gear! what could it be?

hey guys, My '95 blazer 4.3L 4WD suddenly lost third and fourth gear. Could the solenoids be the cause, or is it something like a 3rd 4th clutch failure? If it were the solenoids, would the transmission go into a safe mode and only allow third gear to work? If so, I think I can rule that out and assume it needs a soft rebuild. Correct? Any fast advise is helpful. Also it is a 4L-60E trans.

Thanks

if it is a electronic controled trans then it may be the shift solenoid or just simply a resistor i would suggest buying a transmission manual i have rebuilt mazda trans that are electonic and they are not that hard to rebuild a transmission shop is going to charge you a arm and a leg to rebuild it just because it is electronic.some trans shops will just replace the bad electronic part and tell you they rebuilt it.if your trans never slipped and it just suddenly lost 3rd and 4th then i would say it was electrical. one thing to consider on electronic transmissions is they are wired into the truck ecm as well as its own ecm they work off of the speed you are going and the engines rpm.

well, if your tranny is going bad, 3rd gear is usually the first to go, at least from what I have seen. When was your last tranny flush/fill and filter???
