Default Not a problem, but WTH?

I get between 13-15 mpg averaged per tank of gas, never been better or worse for the past 10 years, I accept that due to the modifications I've done and my driving style.

So, this tank of gas, right now I'm at the point on my trip meter (280 kms) where I should be looking for gas, but my gas gauge is still about 3/8 tank. If it keeps up at this rate I should average about 18 mpg for this tank of gas.

Thoughts?

Yes,always go by the known range and not the gauge,my 96 was spot-on, but my current 97's gauge has become erratic in the past month, not while driving, but when parked.Initial levels may read as much as 3/4 tank off, indicating full OR empty with a long recovery time to somewhat accurate, suspect a ground issue-but I never try to go much past 300 miles w/o the red can...

yeah...when my low fuel light turns on, i still have about a 1/4 tank. i am assuming that the PO had the pump done, or DIY, and someone bent the arm for the fuel float.

Just fill the tank now and see how much goes in. If you have done a lot of highway driving i could see 18 but chances are something is going on with the gauge like everyone said.
