I'm at my wit's end!
I met a guy at a hostel in Alaska that has a '97 Blazer he is working on(that's right, we're both homeless trying to work on a vehicle in the winter in Alaska). The motor was shot so he bought one at a junk yard that had less than 90k on it. I helped him pull the old one out and put the new one in. It ran but the SES light was on. P codes were for an O2 sensor, cam sensor and MAF sensor. Replacing the O2 sensor fixed that problem. Cleaning the MAF sensor and replacing a burned fuse fixed that problem. But the P0340 remains. We tried replacing the sensor with the one that was in the original motor, no change. We replaced it with a new sensor, no change. We checked the plug at the sensor, It has voltage when the key is in the run position, has continuity through the other two wires back to the VCM, and the ground is good. The pins at the VCM look good.
What am I missing?

Thanks to this forum I found the burned fuse and a few other helps along the way. You guys have been WAY more help than the "professional" at JustAnswer.com that cost me $9. Thank you again and in advance for any more help.

Thanks swartlkk. I already read that in another thread but it does bring up something that I have been wondering. It says "bank 1 or single sensor". Does anyone know if the cam sensor in the distributor is the only cam sensor on that engine?

 

There is only one CMP sensor.
